I am doing a project on mode 1 damage propagation with Abaqus.
I have two questions to ask:
1. I need to plot critical strain energy release with respect to crack length (or Crack length with res. to Width). Someone knows if I can request "strain energy release (called G)" or "Crack length" directly in history output? I made a look on parameters on history output but I did not get which one can be or if I can not request it in history output in which way I can have this plot.
2. I need to plot data of 3 simulations together in one figure , it is possible to do it directly in abaqus? or I have to it with other softwares?
I appreciate any help you can provide

Dear Somayeh Afshin plot between critical strain energy release rate with respect to crack length is also known as the resistance curve or R-curve. in experimental studies the we can get the R-curve from the fracture testing machine i.e UTM. as i know it is difficult to plot 3-simulations together in Abaqus. you can do one thing just take the data of each simulation and plot with the help of origin software or other plotting software.

A widely utilized approach is to apply a linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM) description using the strain energy release rate (
G) in a manner analogous to crack growth in terms of the stress intensity factor (K). Using this analogy, damage growth rate/crack growth rate (db/dN ) can be characterized using a Paris Law.

I hop you could solve your problem, if not just do as follow:
After defining all criteria you need from part to mesh, like meshing, loading, boundary and etc. and also declaring the output in STEP modulus (mark the output you need) in FIELD OUTPUT
After Analysis and in the visualization modulus:
Tools>Path> Create> Node List> Add Before/after> select your crack propagation's node ( make sure to select them correctly)
Then, Create XY Data>Path> select created path from above> (from bottom of window) Field output> select your output what ever it is> save your plot.
You can do it for each output you need, like energy , ....
then after preparing two new output, you can plot again using
Operating XY data

can anyone tell me that how to extract these plots of stress intensity Factor vs z-co-ordinate and also stress intensity factor vs crack length for stationary crack analysis using XFEM?
