Hi,

I have modelled a three-span arch bridge with soil fill over along with pedestals. The FE modelling is done in LUSAS with HX8M solid elements (i.e. 3D solid modelling). The non-linearity is induced in soil and concrete (wherever relevant). I have to force a model to generate a crack pattern when subjected to sequential loadings i.e 1. Self-weight, 2. Differential settlement and 3. Live loads. The model is behaving fine with soil and concrete as linear material under self-weight. When soil and concrete are non-linear materials, the model gets converged successfully under self-weight. As soon as the differential settlement is induced, after certain increments, the model is not converging. I have a presumption that cracking might have started and would have reduced the stiffness.

How would I make the model converge if cracking would have started?

Any leads/suggestion is highly appreciated.

Thanks & Regards,

Sushank Dani
