When working with fine-grained (< 5 microns) metallic powders, the task is relatively easy. For such powders you can use liquids with low viscosity: water (if metal does not react with water), ethanol, isopropanol, kerosene and others. But if your powder is coarse-grained, then you need viscous liquids: polyvinyl alcohol (water solution), methyl cellulose (water solution), glycerin, various oils, complex organic solutions (e.g. rubber in gasoline) and others.

Continuous stirring helps to avoid sedimentation of the metal particles from the slurry. This allows you to work with slurry where the metal particles settle within minutes.
