I'm trying to create a volumetric spiral with a rectangular section (as shown below). It was quite easy to create it up using dot selection, but I don't know, how can I do it using variables. It's necessary for optimizer's operation. In particular, I want to change the width, height of spiral section (rectangle), distance between turns and number of turns of spiral section.
If you can give me some advise about creating some analytical curve or face, I would really appreciate it.
I don't think there is a built-in macro that will do this. If I was doing it I would make one top arm and one side, using parameters, and then translate (with copy) for the number of turns I wanted, then rotate (with copy) 180 deg about the spiral axis to get the bottom half. This works well with later operations if the number of turns remains the same, but if the number of turns changes then later operations such as selections of part of the coil can fail or get unexpected parts.
