You can use the plant wast by burning directly and add KOH

There are two basic methods of activation: steam activation and chemical activation.

Chemical activation should not be confused with acid washed or chemical impregnation.

1_crush the carbon ( charcoal) make it a powder.

2_ make a 25% solution of calcium chloride.

3_ make a paste with the calcium chloride solution and powdered charcoal.

4_ spread the pasta to dry.

5_rinse with clean water.

6_ bake at 225 degrees F for 30 minutes.
