Hello, may i ask if your research has to use wooden cage as part of your experimental design, or it can be any method, as ling as it allow successful catching of wild boar?

Be sure that the trap is set along a regularly used trail, possibly from bedding or rooting areas to water. Also be sure to brush in the sides so as to act as a funnel. Use scent free techniques and gloves in building and placing the traps.

Is there any way you can set it up as a walk-through enclosure first? This will acclimate them to the cage. Bait just enough to leave them wanting more, and have both ends open. Monitor their reaction by game camera. Then when you have their activity patterned, rig it so both doors close simultaneously by remote trigger.

If you can only use millet, soak it with hot water first to ferment it. Baiting with soaked corn is even better.

By doing it this way, you can wait until all members of the sounder enter the enclosure and are caught. Otherwise you are only catching the young, uneducated ones.

Thanks Christina Mann , your ideas are very much appreciated and will be considered in our setting. Indeed we could already confirm that wild boar accepts tunnel settings rather than boxes or cages. We're now working on a two-gate-solution to help them acclimatise to the cage. Video surveillance is online, so we're going to see what happens next. We're going to test the modified baiting as well.
