I have tried to fabricate TiO2 coating on the glass substrate through dip coating (sol-gel), using Titanium butoxide, Butanol, HCl, and water. The main problem is that the coated layer has not adhered to the glass and can easily remove. Could anyone advise me please to increase the adhesion? which parameters should be considered for adhesions?

Leaford Nathan Henderson Hi, firstly I wash glasses with soap, rinse them with DI water, then I dip them in following solvents and rinse with DI after each solvent: acetone, ethanol, and IPA ( putting the samples in a beaker and the ultrasonic rod is applied- 10 minutes for each ).
Adhesion mainly depends on the kind of attraction that exists between atoms. Here surface pretreatment or surface cleaning by anodized water can be done. Also better adhesion can be obtained with processes other than sol gel like Chemical vapour deposition and atomic layer deposition.
Firstly, the cleaning of the substrate plays an important role in adhesion. Moreover, you can try some binder to increase the viscosity of the coating solution thereby increasing adhesion. I hope it will work for you, Thank You !!
