I work with ATCC BAA-903, an anaerobic sulfate reducing bacteria. We have a small anaerobic chamber in our lab. It works with nitrogen flow. whenever I work in the chamber, I turn the nitrogen tank on till the sensor gets to 0.0 % Oxygen. All other times the nitrogen tank is off and oxygen percent varies between 2-10%. I usually prepare my media and place it in a bottle in the chamber. I add my media to tubes every week inside the chamber using sterilized puppet tips that are in the chamber. Last week I saw something white on the surface of my media and walls of the bottle. I made new media and this happened again today. I sterilize everything with 70% ethanol in my chamber. I have no idea what the source could be. I don't know if it is from the instruments or the air inside the chamber. I use high purity nitrogen tank. Something that worries me a lot is that if these contaminations pathogenic or dangerous?!?
