How can I process the raw kinematic biomechanics data? For example, how can I process the C3D files exported from VICON to obtain usable, accurate kinematic and kinetic data? Do you have any book recommendations?
I am new to the subject, thank you all!
I have tried a lot of different software applications and would recommend MATLAB. Mainly due to the broad adaptation and use by the research community.

As far as I am concerned, the easiest way is to use the btk biomechanical toolbox. You will find it quite easily on internet.
Then, you will have to choose a way to process from raw data.
The ISB recommandations are of interest to read to ease processing / help to determine markers position.

Then, you can directly create segmental and joint frames bases on markers (not for all joints such as hip), or you could use musculoskeletal models to ease processing, such as with OpenSim ou Anybody.

Hi Chou Wu, if you are going to use Btk/Mokka/c3dserver be careful and double-check markers data after you extracted them. I noticed they were affected somehow (using Nexus 2.6 and both on MacOS and windows). You can read c3d on your own defining some options (e.g. encoding UTF-8 or ASCII)
Further, you can either set the pipeline in Vicon Nexus to export data in a formatted txt/csv file which is easier to open with any software or program language (in case you want to use Matlab to read the txt/csv I created a function to import the data in a formatted struct https://github.com/PaulT95/Import_Vicon_Data ).

Hi Chou Wu , maybe only if you want get the data without any associated information you should try .csv file format and use this file in any type of data analysis of election for example: python. You can use libraries as pandas for read ".csv" files , numpy for data vectors and matplotlib for all de data graphics. Then you can process in the way you need the data.

You can change the format of C3D to TRC format with MOKKA software, then, this TRC data will be readable by OpenSim. 'OpenSim kinematics analysis Tools' calculate your kinematics data. If you have any questions, please contact me ([email protected]).
