Hi everyone. Currently I'm working on a project to generate double emulsions in a Microfluidics device, the method I used is flow focusing in a 2D planar system, my problem is generating water in oil at the first junction. Selected channels have been treated properly by 1%wt followed by plasma oxidization. The channels at the first junctions in this image are all hydrophobic. The dark fluid is oil phase that is 1% wt span 80 in oleic acid and the aqueous phase from the right side is a mixture of SDS, Ethanol and Water ( 70%, 15%, 15%). I applied various flow rates but I still cannot form W/O emulsions.

Looks like your flow rates are reversed. Try making your continuous phase flow rate at least 10 times your droplet phase flow rate.

could you give us some additional information about the flow? At which Ca, Re and Oh does your device operate?
It would be good to have more data of the flow. Are you forced to use this device, or change the junction is an option?
