Sometimes I use the "journalfinder"of elsevier; other times I check in which journals have published articles comparable to the one I have to submit...or (rarely) I submit the abstract to the editor of the journal I'm interested in publishing, asking if the submission fits the aims and scope of the journal...
Cabell's directory of journals is a great reference for scholars - especially newer ones. If your library has access to the database you can search by topics and it provides direct links to the journals, specifics for authors, etc.
Of course it is possible to the Cabell'directory references but I think also about the necessity to publish on journals of different disciplines to involve in the research different research experiences, especially when they deal with bionanotechnology topics. Some times journals not wellknowm may be of great interest
Getting an 'appropriate journal' will depend on what your research is all about. If you have written your paper, then glance through your references, and you will find where the people you cited publish their work. This is one of the ways to know where to send your work. You can also ask senior colleagues to suggest (if they can read through your work). Some institutions have lists of approved journals. Check whether your university has.
In addition, because you are based in India, you will need to read yesterday's post from Scholarly Kitchen. They provided all the journals approved in your country. The post can also help you to know those journals to avoid. I recently had the same experience of George, too many papers published in the same elsevier journal...and the last one rejected immediately with "out of the aims of the journal".
however, I think this was an incentive to me to discover more interesting journals to have papers published.....and I also feel that other authors will have the opportunity to publish instead of me....this is good
In my opinion, in open access all the papers are available to all the people. So let the paper be published in some journal. It will be accessible for everybody in online. If it has worthy content, it will be supported by everybody. If not there is something wrong with majority of researchers. Such useless research is of no value.
