I have tried thrice to prepare a homogeneous solution of chitosan (in 1% CH3COOH) and carboxymethylcellulose (CMC)(in H2O) in the ratio 1:1. But I found clumps at the bottom. Whether I've to pour chitosan into CMC or CMC into chitosan ?? Instead I've used plasticizer polysorbate 80 once and next time I was going with glycerol. But clumps are still there. All set up at room temp.
You have to use compatible (miscible) solvents at certain percentages (there are solvent charts) for chitosan and CMC so your solutes will not crash out.
It seems that the compound is not mixing well. Please confirm the solvent that was used for the mixing. As from the knowledge, chitosan is not dissolve in aqueous solution.
Make sure that your addition going by drop-wise with vigorous stirring & try Ultra-sonication as well.
