There is a simple answer: Fourier Transformation.

In practice, there are several numerical problems like spectral leakage and aliasing.

Please have a look at the papers below. The first one introduces the basic principle in a very brief but comprehensive manner. If the results are not satisfactory, have a look at the second paper that discusses the several practical problems for the Fourier transformation.
