There are two types of correlation used in Atmospheric Science-Spatial and Temporal and both are important with respect to different aspect. Generally to test the statistical significance of correlation we use student's t test. Now since in case of spatial correlation, the no. of data points is large (~100000) and therefore the degrees of freedom is also large. It is impossible to find the significance for the large degrees of freedom as there is no table. Is there any practical and scientific tricks to resolve the problem? Otherwise how to justify whether the correlation is significant in these case?
