From your question it is difficult to understand whether you are asking about the whole 20-story frame or about an element of that frame (column, beam or braces) of some story. Anyway, if you are able to receive the hysteresis loops for that frame or its elements subjected to EQ displacement, then first you have to identify the loop which corresponds to the displacement you are interested in, and second - you have to calculate the area of the selected loop. This value of the area will characterize the energy absorbed by the structure at the reached displacement.

I have to calculate the hysteretic energy of each component so that I can apply Park Ang double parameters failure criterion for damage index. And then calculate the whole damage index. The main problem is my structure requires very high mass in order to achieve plastic deformation(like 20times of all the Dead and Live Loads) of the structure, I found the hysteretic loop in reaction force to displacement of columns. I think I won't be able to achieve hysteretic energy without the plastic deformation. My joints are fixed.

Al Mouayed Bellah Nafeh , I am using an actual earthquake data and performing a nonlinear dynamic time history analysis to obtain the displacement and the hysteretic curves. I tried to use linear kinematic hardening and multilinear kinematic hardening at different simulations. I got a curve like this but when I checked my equivalent stress throughout the whole model, it has not exceeded the elastic limit. I have not defined any damping conditions for my model in order to obtain the dissipated hysteretic energy. I found the hysteretic curve using the top and bottom displacement of every column and plotted it versus the directional shear force. I think I am doing it completely wrong. Please, guide me if I am going wrong. I am new to Ansys and FEA software. My target displacement in terms of total strain is 0.01.
