I've inherited human blood samples from another lab and want to extract RNA from them. They're stored in Fastubes which it seems aren't manufactured anymore (I think were made by Endotell or ViennaLab) and I'm having difficulty finding information on how they should be processed.
Does anyone have experience with these tubes or know what they contained that acted as an RNA preservative?

The samples are 10-15 years old, stored at -80 C. I'm expecting some degradation but am hoping they will be intact enough for PCR.
For standard PCR it should be ok, however for QPCR i would strongly recommend not to use them. Ive had some experience with QPCR using RNA from plasma cells (that have been stored for ~3 years). While you will amplify the target, due to the instability of RNA, large amplification variations will occur making it extremely difficult to reproduce. However, while I'm sure these tubes would prolong the life of the RNA, 10-15 years is well and truly pushing the storage life of RNA.
