There has been increasing use of asset holding as a measurement of economic well-being (Filmer and Pritchet, 2001; Vyas and KumarNayake, 2006; Moser and Felton, 2007). It is argued that it resolves some of the problems associated with income and expenditure approach of measuring economic status. Now, I am looking for a resource how to enter the data collected in to SPSS on asset holding so that I may also develop an asset index by clubbing 23 variables in to a single variable (lets call it wealth) to measure the socioeconomic status (SES). Please suggest.

I have also consulted one of my professors and I am in process to enter the variables. I will use factor analysis later on to arrive at SES index.
