I want to ask how to remove TMJ from rat's head?
Is there a protocol or instruction?
And, if I want to do micro-CT for TMJ of rat, can I scan the whole head or after removal will be better?
Besides, is scanning just after sacrifice ok? Or overnight fixation in the Formalin is recommended?

It is quite difficult to remove it without damaging TMJ. The joint is deformed, but it may happen if you are going to examine individual surfaces. However, a micro-CT image can be taken in the form of an entire head. The Bruker 1072 micro-ct can scan the entire rat head. You can wait for a while in formaldehyde and scan.

Routinely we scan specimens immediately post-mortum before rigor mortis distorts the specimen. If you require a fixed specimen for high resolution imaging the rat can be frozen in a dry ice and alcohol bath or LN2 which keeps the process from proceeding. It gives a 1-2 hour window to perform a high resolution MicroCT of the TMJ without distortion due to movement.
