Crypthelia species are gonochoric. One of the characters used on the identification of species belonging to this genus is the formula developed by Cairns, 1986 which is based on the positioning of ampullae for both sexes. Size and position of the ampullae and efferent pores are indicators of the gender. However, some positions of ampullae are possible for both sexes. Is there any other way to distinguish one gender from the other?
Thanks a lot in advance.
