I was trying to develop a single index with PCA. The problem is the first, 2nd, and 3rd principal components explain only 38%, 29%, and 18% of the variation. I have six variables, the Varimax rotated correlation matrix showed that each variable is perfectly correlated with each component. Should I multiply the factor loadings which has a high variation for each variable with the value of the variable and sum these to find the index?
