In velocity contours, the tangential velocity option will give the exact tangential velocity contour.
Due to the mathematical definition of the tangential velocity, this parameter is depending on the alignment of rotation-axis. If you are interested in evaluating the tangential velocity distribution around a pipe axis for example, then you should check whether the reference frame is correctly adjusted in Fluent. This can be checked under Cell Zone Conditions -> fluid. There, you can specify the origin and direction of the rotation axis.
