I did my MPH where there were three different criteria to categorise people with DM, IFG or IGT using the American, the Australian 2 step screening strategy or the WHO guidelines so there were also people in different groups and overlap. I used kappa statistic in some analysis to measure agreement using different criteria. I don't know if this can be applied to your analysis though - I am sorry it was 10 years ago that I did this.
