How to design a filter to extract the fundamental signal from a signal full of noise ??

to be clear, I have an electric signal with 50 Hz frequency .. I used park transformation then passed it on Low pass filter to get the fundamental one.

How I can specify the order of the filter and the frequency in the matlab ???

I mean the calculations

for example I saw many designs who choose 8th order .. but why ?? and why not more than that ??

and for the frequency ?
