I would like to review the literature on the intrinsic and extrinsic risks to women that can negatively influence their childbirth experience.
I have a difficulty in developing my research protocol to describe the variables of interest because they include environmental, social, psychological and other factors...
In the JBI manual for evidence syntheses, it is written: "It should be clearly reported in this section what the exposure or risk factor (or protective factor) is, and how it may be measured/identified including the nature of the exposure and its intensity and/or the duration of exposure, if relevant". This assumes that we already know the exposure factors. In my case, I'm trying to know them. How do I proceed?

I am not quite sure what your intention is, but you might find this paper useful:

it is a variable that you predict will have an effect on the outcome variable, so, during your study, you will alter the exposure variable to measure what changes occur in the outcome variable
I agree with Dr Kakamad that in order to find out the risk factor, you will need different set ups with changed circumstances. In addition to this, you will need a neutral group to ccompare your findings to. This neutral group may be hard to find, as circumstances can change immensely - of course, you can always include any unforseen circumstances in the eventual discussion of your results. Finally - and this may be obvious - but you will want to avoid a bias in your subjects, so it is always best not to tell them what you are researching. Hopefully these steps may be of help.
