We now know that highly infectious novel viruses can just catch us severely under prepared and that most nations tend to cut funding for healthcare emergencies. Quick diagnosis is going to be essential to fight any new diseases in the future and our current methods are simply not as practical or suited for massive implementation as we would like.

Lateral flow technology is very practical but it has taken some time for a few tests to become available and PCR is just too expensive and requires too much technical knowledge to apply correctly.

What technology could be more capable of being quickly adapted for efficient detection and mass implementation? Any new trends in biotechnology we should keep an eye on? why?
