Hello fellow researchers,
I have been attempting to conduct an experiment whereby two blocks that are sliding past each other are impeded by an occlusion in between them.
I am currently having issues obtaining results for my model and was wondering if any of you would be able to help me understand why?
I think it may have something to do with defining the contact regions between the blocks, however I am unclear on how to do so.
If anyone could take a look at my input file that would be greatly appreciated.

I don't understand why you went from hex elements to tet (C3D10H). For your model hex elements (C3D20H) are more natural and ensure much more better compatibility between nodes of contact surfaces than tet elements in your (.inp) file.

The reason why I changed the element type was because I was receiving this error message when trying to mesh the parts using hex elements:

I could be wrong, but I think that partitioning and meshing with hex elements will be helpful.

I am getting an error that says "2 unconnected regions in the model". Do you think that the element type has something to do with this?
It is likely that no interactions were assigned to these regions. But I assume that the element type will play significant role in solving contact problem. I mean compatibility between the nodes of contact surfaces.

As is said, better late than never:} My doubts about tet elements became redundant. I slightly changed .inp file, namely:
1) tied one face of occlusion and one face of pva;
2) combined remaining 5 faces of occlusion to one contact surface s_mast;
3) combined all 5 faces of gelatin and 4 faces of pva to one contact surface s_slav;
4) defined contact interaction between these surfaces;
5) tied gelatin and pva.
But the job didn’t want to complete the first increment. Then I replaced quadratic elements C3D10H by linear C3D4H, and the job was successfully completed. I think my home computer is too weak for such problems. I attach the wiew cut (x-z plane) of the model, the wiew of the whole occlusion in the last frame, and also .inp file.

When I try to alter your model to allow for sliding between the PVA and gelatin block, however, the job will not submit successfully.
Do you know what I am doing wrong for it to keep giving me errors?
There is delamination due to lack of constraint between gelatin and pva. Maybe a pressure is needed.

Did you manage to produce that delamination result from my sliding_attempt input file? When I run it I do not get any results and get plenty of messages about negative eigenvalues and zero vol. flux.

It was exactly your Sliding_attempt.inp file. I also got these warnings, but the job performed 11 increments and stoped at Step Time=0.0253375 with the error: "Time increment required is less than the minimum specified". I worked in Abaqus 6.14-5.

When I run that exact same file my job runs for about 25 minutes and then aborts with the following error message (shown in the image).
Do you know why my version of Abaqus isn't completing the job whereas yours is?
