I have high-resolution XPS data of Ce3d (attached) in which Shirley background is crossing my actual data as shown in the figure. I need to correct it. Please find the attached '.txt' data file.
For the solution of the same, I have also gone through the CASAXPS tutorial on youtube in which the last digit of the cross-section tab has to be changed in order to correct it. But, somehow it did not get changed even changing its default value i.e. '0' to '+1' or '-1'.
The most important thing, I would like to mention that I have received '.txt' file (with binding energy and counts only) which was imported into CASAXPS software. I think that it would be a factor in which complete details of the test conditions were not imported into CASAXPS. Am I correct?
Kindly help me in resolving it to draw a proper background for analyzing the data.

I cannot answer this right now but I noticed a few problems in your region settings. It looks like a high resolution scan but 1) it says survey and not Ce 3d and 2) it gives an R.S.F. of 1 which is not correct. It should be 8.808

Yes, It is a high resolution scan and i forgot to change the name and tag in the respective window.
As far as my knowledge is concerned and i came to know is R.S.F. is about relative sensitivity and it deals with different elements. Further, if the relative concentration needs to calculated based on int nsity then R.S.F. factor must be corrected based on Ce5/2 and Ce3/2 ratio which is fixed. But, here single element i.e. Ce3d is being analysed. Moreover, there is a specific area ratio between 5/2 and 3/2 peaks which is already been applied for fitting the curve.
You have mentioned in you comment that 'it should be 8.808'. I would like to know that why it should be 8.808 when I have only single element data. Does the R.S.F. value can really affect the background? If so, then i would be very happy to learn something new.

It does not affect the background but it does affect the relative amounts. I assume that you are dealing with a complex compound considering that you have multiple peaks in your high resolution scan. Since it is not the spectrum of pure Ce metal, it means that in your interpretation of the relative amounts of other elements ( O, C, and whatever else there may be present in your compound.) have to be taken into account as well and in order to do that correctly you have to use the correct R.S.F. factors for each element. If you look only at Ce than you're right.

You are absolutely correct. This spectrum does not belong to pure cerium metal, but it corresponds to CeO2 consisting peaks associated to Ce3+ and Ce4+ both.

Attached I send you some solution for your spectra, maybe it works for you.
Your solution has three problems, the first as Theo says it is necessary to use the correct R.S.F., the second it is your background that you point out in your image and the third one it is the components at ~ 880eV, it seems like they are overlapping and you should be careful with this because the distance of the two peaks should be around 0.5 eV, unless you have measured the sample in a synchrotron.

Thank you very much for such a supportive and valuable comment with the solution to my post. I have checked your file which seems more appropriate than mine.
Based on your result, it seems that 5 doublets can be fitted in the provided result that too depend on the drawn background. Due to my incorrect background, 5 doublets could not provide a good fitting that why I tried to add another doublet.
But, my problem remains the same that 'How do I correct my parameters because it does not get changed upon manual editing?' I don't have a licensed version of the CASAXPS. Does it create such an issue during deconvolution? Moreover, similar FWHM can not be observed (attached figure) in your results which can be corrected later. But, Thank you once again for providing the results.
