I have a number of ASCII (with .asc format) layer layers that need to be converted to .grd format to import them into R software for modeling with the Biomod2 package.
In the conversion tools section of the ArcMap software, I did not find a way to get output with the .grd extension.

in ArcMap select ArcTool box .....then Conversion tool....then to Raster and then ASCII to Raster
Since your protocol include R, I'd suggest getting this done with R only
It is difficult without a reproducible example but it may be close to this:

Hey! Just add your raster data (*.asc) to ArcMap project and next just click right on your raster (in Table of Contents) and choose Data - Export Data, and in this pace You can save your asc file in any other raster format (grid or tif)
And by the way .asc extension is ESRI ASCII raster format. it is not the same as ASCII text file
