In the synthesis of TEOS coated followed by amine functionalized nanoparticles magnetic nanoparticles using APTES, how to know amine group is functionalized? Is there any specific peak for APTES in FTIR?
Before the modification your magnetic nanoparticles does not contain any organic group?
Then, after the modification you can monitor the CH2 vibrational bands specific (proportional) to the amount of mono-(aminopropyl) siloxane using HATR-FTIR spectroscopy (similar to the measurements in Article Synthesis and testing of ZnO nanoparticles for photo-initiat...
). To determine the exact amount calibration are necessary (e.g. by TGA).
You should also confirm the presence of -NH2 by performing zeta potential measurements Article Functionalized polymer colloids bearing primary amino groups
(before and after the modification with your final target compound).
Note that Abdur Rahman correctly used APTES to bond the siloxane layer to the surface of the particles (-NH3+ and negatively charged surface). I suggest that you also use at least in small amount of APTES during the modification with TEOS. The base (R-NH2) will also catalyze the reaction.
