It is not clear, what you actually mean by saying "reasons of dumping plastic".

Main reasons behind forming the heap of plastic garbage-

a. Throwing the packaging material. Plastic is used as packaging material because of light weight and water resistant capacity.

b. throwing the plastic bodies of common items eg. broken toy, used pens, broken pvc utensils or any home decor

c. throwing industrial waste including medical waste

Conduct your research on perception of

a. Environmentalists

b. Policy makers

c. Industrial producers

d. common people who are daily user of plastic

Compare the awareness level of these four tiers and identify the gaps

What I experienced in many regions is the above mentioned level of awareness. An interesting way of research would be to just go to schools and/or some busy market place and randomly ask people about their attitude towards littering. Maybe you could find a project partner in an industrialized country who could ask the same questions there. I feel like besides awareness there is also a lack of trust in waste collection system which should be taken into account.

A survey on attitudes towards littering might be a good way to go about this. If its only plastics that can be the focus of your survey rather than in general.

Who would you target the survey? general public? younger generation? students?

There are a number of research articles on similar studies.  Also an online search can give you survey tools as well that can help you.

Respondent's identity    Name, Age, No. of family members, Educational level of the respondent and family members, Family income per annum, occupation

Section B : Household condition of the respondent

Type of house, No. of room, Types of kitchen, Types of fuel used in kitchen, Types of sanitation facility used, Source of drinking and daily use water, some common practice of hygiene maintenance, common diseases etc.

All these data will help in identifying the various strata among the respondents which can be compared with their environment awareness level.

Section C: Level of environment awareness level as a whole

Section D: Identification of awareness level focused to plastic use and plastic littering 

Construction of the questions and selection of options will depend on the nature of the study area.

All the above mentioned sections will follow a structured questionnaire with definite options.

Section E: Possible remedies in the opinion of the respondent. 

This section should be open ( not limited with definite options)
