If mock carburing is like carburing, heating at approximately 1700 d.fahrenheit for 8h, but without a carburing atmosphere, how do we not lose carbon in the process? I would expect a lot of decarburization after heating for 8hrs. 

Do we remove the decarburized layer or do we use cast iron chips or other methods to prevent decarburization?
