Ph.D. supervisor should be the most influential people in your academic life. Guys, I would appreciate hearing your thoughts and experiences on this issue of choosing a Ph.D. supervisor. There are plenty of such question available in research gate, including Young vs. Senior Ph.D. supervisor. But I would like to have a discussion on the key selection factors such as his behavior (I think its most important), profile, numbers of articles published, postdoc/job career in foreign country, field of research, lab infrastructure and out-going Postdocs from his/her lab... ?

In my book Postgraduate pursuit in China : A practical guide. I stressed that finding the right supervisor is a major research responsibility of the student and a fundamental step in a successful research career. Doing an extensive background research interests,availability and match will help making the right choice.
I totally agree with Dr. Han Ping Fung. I believe that for Ph.D., knowledge is least important where as the most important thing is "constant motivation".. PhD supervisor must motivate his/her students constantly.
The question is very important . A Ph.D supervisor should be a good well experienced teacher at first . Then his expertisation , specialisation, research ethics w.r.t that that subject will be needed. He himself should be a well known / recognised international researcher .
Supervisor is a guide cum teacher for a PhD scholar, who is supposed to be expert for specific field of research and researcher as well.
