I have an article published recently. However, I published a preprint of the earlier version of the published article here at RG in 2017. I hope to change "preprint" to "article' through "edit" to reflect the state of the research related to the early preprint. It seems that I cannot.
How to change preprint to article? please help me.

I am afraid Researchgate doesn't allow it:
"We don’t merge articles with their linked data or preprints. We encourage our members to upload their work during all stages of the publication process, so we consider these to be separate research items. Items with a ResearchGate DOI also won't be merged." https://explore.researchgate.net/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=950413
This is a bit annoying, they should come up with a solution.
After adding a new entry for the published version, you may delete the preprint entry or may keep it, just as you like.

It is easy for RG to update from preprint to article to reflect the progress of a research, finally, RG will meet the need of its customers.
