Remark: stress and strain are related by the elastic constants of the material;
but XRD will give you the strain; i. e. the relative*) change of lattice constants and lattice plane spacings, but not the stress itself...
*) strain = deltaL/L; L = length; deltaL = change of L; unit of strain is '1';
stress is force per area.
