you can measure surface area of particles through Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) method. Details of method can be observed in my published paper in powder technology Journal-2012. References of this paper are also useful for better understanding of details.
The most common method of measuring the specific surface area at present is the volumetric method of N2 adsorption on the surface of the material under study. The specific surface is calculated by the volume of gas required for the formation of a monolayer of adsorbate molecules on the sample surface. To determine the specific surface, adsorption isotherms are used, i.e. the dependence of the volume of gas absorbed by the sample on pressure at a constant temperature. There is a huge number of equations describing the adsorption isotherm, the BET equation is best known.
