I am working on a research project “Assessing the quality of life in diabetic neuropathy from literature”. From the literature review, I observed that
1. SF-36 is the most commonly used tool to measure the quality of life followed by EQ-5D.
2. Many of the published articles used SF-36 to measure HRQOL were reported Physical component score (PCS) and mental component score (MCS) separately along with eight domains of SF-36.
1. Physical function
2. Physical role
3. Bodily pain
4. General health
5. Vitality
6. Mental health
7. Role emotional
8. Social function
3. Some of the published articles did not report any Physical component score (PCS) and mental component score (MCS)
My major queries are
• What is the normal procedure to calculate the PCS and MCS score from above eight domains?
• If any published articles report only eight domains without PCS and MCS, How we can calculate PCS and MCS?
• For example, I am pasting one study that did not provide PCS and MCS scores, so how we can calculate these
SF-36 Mean (SD)
Physical function 32 (25.3)
Physical role 10 (23.7)
Bodily pain 21 (19.4)
General health 68 (21.1)
Vitality 38 (20.1)
Mental health 42 (26.6)
Role emotional 57 (45.4)
Social function 65 (18.5)
I hpe you give me quick response to this query.
