Magnesium Sulphate is administered to pregnant women during preterm labour for fetal neuroprotection. Would like to know about any studies which have been done to evaluate its beneficial effects during early neonatal period.
To my knowledge, there are no studies assessing early neonatal Magnesium sulphate administration with the purpose of neuroprotection. However, there are small studies regarding its use for persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (e.g. DOI: 10.1093/tropej/50.4.219), and a Cochrane Systematic Review (doi: 10.1002/14651858.CD005588.pub2) that could not find eligible trials according to its standards.
