I am currently design an experiment about compare patients' drug compliance. The drug is used topically twice daily on the wound. We would provide diary card for subject to note the administration time.
Generally, the compliance is determined by "drug actually used times" divided to "duration x 2" and then the number times to 100%. Therefore, 100% means 100% adherent to the protocol.
But here comes a problem. If the subject did not follow the order and use the drug three times daily? (I did not weight the drug)
The second question is that by the formula, I can't show wrong time error as well.
How can I modify the formula to show 1. overdose or 2. wrong time error?

Little difficult to apply but not impossible.
The participant may be asked to take picture with mobile phone camera each time they apply the medication. With photo the date, time is also captured. This way you can calculate all: compliance, overdose and time of application as well. But remember nothing is foolproof and has shortcomings.
