I have SAED pattern for my sample which is Au. How can I index rings? The attachment is SAED of my sample. I wanted to try using equation d=lambda*L/R to calculate d spacing, but confuse abit about the unit of the scale in the image which is 1/Å. what is 1/Å? is it same as Å value?
Diffraction problem can be treated using Kirchhoff's -Fresnel Formula. The easiest case is far-field or Frauhofner case of diffraction. The later, can be analyzed using Fourier transform mathematical technique. In this case higher orders-diffraction terms are obtained. One can "block" or eliminate the higher orders (terms) , selecting only one .I think this is a possible help to your question.
Your image represents a section through reciprocal space. Therefore all distances are related to 1/m or m-1. You can check this by yourself: the 002 ring (or point) has a distance of 2* 001, although the d-value of 002 is 1/2 d001.
