Is it possible to calculate the carrying capacity K of an environment based on the composition of the environment, or is K an empirical parameter?
For instance, if I consider the environment as a nutrient medium, can I estimate K? That is: if I have 100 mL of Luria-Bertani broth, the environment will contain:
Tryptone 1 g Yeast Extract 0.5 g NaCl 1 g
Assuming that tryptone is the source of carbon and, therefore, the limiting element, can I estimate the carrying capacity?

The rate of exponential growth of a bacterial culture is expressed as generation time. Also known as the doubling time of the bacterial population. Generation time (G) is defined as the time (t) per generation (n = number of generations). Hence, G=t/n is the equation from which calculations of generation time derive.
Sorry but I don't get it. If I know the concentration of, let's say, ammonium sulfate, can I estimate the carrying capacity?
