Hey! I am currently working with anxiety tests in animal models (light-dark box, elevated plus maze) and I am some trouble to check the room light (Lux). I have downloaded an app (Lux Light Meter) but it seems to have too much variance and too low values...Does anybody has any recommendations?

An app for a mobile phone depends on the sensors available on the phone. A calibrated dedicated lux meter has a cosine diffuser on top of its photosensitive detector. The camera of a mobile phone does not have a cosine diffuser and also its lens system deviates from a flat surface photo detector. This is one cause of deviation. Following the above suggestion, i don't think mobile phone app of Lux light meter can provide the consistant results. Why not buy a light meter or borrow one from optical labs? It is not expensive.

Calibration is important; many if not most instruments must be calibrated to maintain their accuracy claims over time and use. The calibration frequency it typically recommended by the manufacturer based on technology choices and limitations.
