How to avoid mucilage from petals of Alcea rosa or Hibiscus rosa?

While crushing the petals of Althea rosa in required extraction buffer lot of mucilage comes out in supernatant which does not allow the enzyme to disperse and act on substrate. How to resolve this issue to carry forward the task of investigating enzyme activity and related assays while working with Althea. Please suggest!

The study is related to flower senescence.
