As you can see in the picture you need split cells (If your device potential window is 1.6 V, you need two cells to lit up LED bulb), a positive electrode, a negative electrode, a separator (soaked in the electrolyte), wire with both end crocodile clip, and 5 mm LED bulb.

You can test it by making capacitor. i.e By placing a separator between in your electrode.
