I am working on mixed of degree of urban functions which contain different types of POI data. i want to construct the information entropy model of urban functional space for grid treatment of urban space. How can urban space is gridded by ArcGIS software and divided into m × n non-intersecting squares of equal size?
Basically, you take your m x n grid and convert your vector data into that grid - ( see page 42 onward of https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bxor0dnxUrN2U3ZpNEwxR2NsQUk/view?usp=sharing as example ) ... basically a raster 3-D model of Brooklyn NY using basic stock ESRI ArcGIS Spatial Analyst Tool box functionality. I was only interested in the physical form of the the street canyons and visualization fidelity compared to aerial photographs, but really you could have any number of bands in the raster ( or additional rasters ) to account for other variables.
The city scape really isn't any different than any other terrain, so once it is in a DEM format, all the various terrain analytics like least cost path, day lighting, inter- visiblity and more are available.
