It would be nice if ResearchGate could allow researchers to manually type their journal names in. Limiting to journals only selected by ResearchGate prevents us in getting the full details of our research out there for others to see and reference.
I think OP asked about adding a journal toResearchGate and I'm also interested in this problem (as an author, not as a publisher). The answer given semme completely irrelevant to the question :-(
I have the same problem. I have two publications on Research on Biomedical Engineering (ISSN Online 2446-4740; ISSN Print 2446-4732), published by Springer.
The only way is to mail RG team so that they add this specific journal. (and this way is not possible.. RG provides no support.. and if any, it`s really really bad support).
Try another platform.. I recommend you trying Publons.. I`m not sure if they have this feature, but this one is much better.
All: Once, I found a similar post with this reply/answer:
If your journal isn't visible in the drop-down menu, it's not in our database. We're not currently adding journals to our database by request, but this may change in the future.
@ Janusz S. Bień Publons is a new platform.. Some previous platforms (ORCID, Web of Science etc are merged in this new platform.
I tried it a few days ago, and found that it works differently. You can add any journal by exporting its data (from a BibTeX file etc...) , or by importing it from Google Scholar or other specified (and few) sources.
However, I was able to add the journal by a BibTeX file I created myself (In Publons)
Another platform that works similarly to RG is Academia.. I noticed that many journals note at their websites being indexed in Academia... so, I think that it is much known and much better.. and that journals are frequently and easily added there (by their publishers).
I migrated from Academia to RG for some reasons (DOI, some features there are free here), but, it seems that Academia is better... so, I recommend Academia or Publons.
For Journals you will have to know their ISSN, DOI is for an article...
Repeating once again: If your journal isn't visible in the drop-down menu, it's not in our database. We're not currently adding journals to our database by request, but this may change in the future.

I am not portparol of RG, but all journals can be in RG database. How? Well, the publisher of a journal, or its Editor-in-Chief have to work harder for inclusion of a journal into Scopus, DOAJ...
I thought journal inclusion in RG database is based on citation records on RG. If there is a need to involve the publisher of the journal, or its Editor-in-Chief, then is there an application process for this? and are journals added to Research Gate database for free or is there a subscription involved?
There is no way to add a journal name manually, rather it depends on your luck whether your journal is listed in the drop-down menu or not. I think RG should provide an option for researchers/scholars to add the journal names manually. So, it is requested to team RG to kindly include the manual option for journal names.
"" all journals can be in RG database. How? Well, the publisher of a journal, or its Editor-in-Chief have to work harder for inclusion of a journal into Scopus, DOAJ..."
OK. Take Materials Today Letters for example. It's in Scopus, WoS and everywhere, Q2, IF about 2 or something. Now the question: how hard their publisher (Elsevier) shoud try to convince ReserchGate to condescend and include it in the database?
This Journal Bulletin of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (BEEI) is indexed by Scopus (Q2) and ISI, but not included in RG.
What about this journal?
Researchgate should always scanning the journals listed in the Scopus, WOS, and other databases to add the journals automatically, when adding a journal name is not possible manually.
After contacting RG directly about this issue I received the following response (excerpt):
"We're currently working on new ways to improve our journal database and also improve how journals and publications are linked. As we develop this feature further, we are not adding journals or making changes to the database."
I believe they are aware of the deficiencies in the system and are hopefully working towards implementing positive changes that recognise the full range of journals out there.
When authors are unable to add the name of the journal for an article, it results in incomplete data on Research Gate. Downloading such citations directly from RG say for Endnote, creates incomplete citation information in the manuscript. I prefer to search for articles and download citations either from Scopus or Google Scholar. Also, instances when authors wrongly fill article upload form needs to be checked on RG. Some papers have funny titles on RG like Article 20_015, and sometimes the journal name is filled as the title of the article. This creates data reliability issues and affects the quality of such platforms.
I like to add the journal of soil biology and ecology which published 39 volumes by the Indian Society of soil biology and ecology,Uni.Agricultural Sciences,GKVK,Bangalore,India. Is it possible ?
same problem. We have changed the journal web site from WordPress to OJS. OAI-PMH test is ok, so no problem to harvest metadata from the web site, but still nothing.
I also think that researchgate should answer this question. Its a at least 2 year discussion - and I feel in a Kafkaian bureacratic world. That is not necessary. So researchgate, please allow to fill out the journal field manually!!
I share the feelings of Olaf Kaltmeier regarding the inability to manually add a journal to Researchgate - it is really a "Kafkaian bureacratic world".
same issue, and due non-availability of journal name in RG journal list, one can not get the citation count for the number of times the paper is cited!!
The problem is that smaller journals - especially from the Humanities and Social Sciences are not represented. And journals from the Global South are missing. In this sense RG tends to reproduce a colonial geopolitics of knowledge that stands against RGs own aim of free access to knowledge production.
It would be great to hear a statement of RG in regard to these issues. Actually I think there is a chance to improve the visibility and legitimity of RG.
Olaf Kaltmeier smaller journals definitely are missing, but bigger and relatively fast expanding journals as well. For instance, a lot of MDPI journals are absent - all MDPI journals are open access, many are indexed by ProQuest, Web of Science and Medline, and many have decent impact factors as well. Journals like Cells (IF 5.656) and Biomolecules (IF 4.694) are missing, but at the same time for example Molecules (IF 3.060) and Int J Mol Sci (IF 4.183) are available. I fail to see the logic behind this. Why not add all MDPI journals to ResearchGate in the first place, especially since they clearly are not predatory or otherwise fishy?
I fully agree - ResearchGate should participate in this discussion and/or make a statement about their policies and whether they are going to address this issue.
From MDPI molecule journal is is appearing but Biomolecules and antibiotics are not appearing in research gate i do not know how it is. If research gate should solve this problem ASAP.
in my estimation is that as long as the journal is classified based on clarivate and has a clear impact factor and not cite score then a definitely will be in the list of RG. so its data bases issues most likely.
Consumer Psychology Review (ISSN 2476-1281) published by Wiley is also missing. It would be nice if the ResearchGate team could please consider adding it.
I am afraid many of you take this for a wish list which in the end someone with authority will read and fulfil. But all these question-and-answer forums are, as far as I can see, completely unmoderated playgrounds for ResearchGate members only. - Which brings me to what I miss most on this site: A place where official announcements are made - e.g. on site and server problems, planned innovations, etc. - and where questions can be put to a person of authority.
I had the same issue about a missing journal in the database. I messaged them using the contact form: https://www.researchgate.net/contact?type=contact_incorrect_author_claim
They replied back yesterday and wrote:
"Thanks for getting in touch. We're currently working on new ways to improve our journal database and also improve how journals and publications are linked. As we develop this feature further, we are not adding journals or making changes to the database. We appreciate your constructive feedback as we continue to explore greater possibilities with the journals feature. We are always working to improve the experience for researchers on our platform and will forward your message to the team responsible for journal pages."
Please add "Modern Information Technologies and IT-Education"

Please add Talking Points. It is a peer reviewed journal published by the National Council of Teachers of English with focus on whole language instruction. https://ncte.org/resources/journals/talking-points/
Given the number of requests for journal additions, it is obvious that there is a great need to add this function. For Open Access reviews there is DOAJ.ORG, but the advantage of RG is to have more extensive functionalities for the journals it indexes. It is a shame to have no information on their selection criteria. It should at least be possible to submit to a Research Gate selection committee who would select on clear criteria. Without possibility of addition, Research Gate loses a some interest.
In reply to Janusz. I agree, I was asking myself the same question. It seems that there is no support available on Research Gate and that these messages are not read by anyone unfortunately. It's disappointing. Eventually it looks it's a loss of time to post a request here.
In reply to Christian and Janusz. I reached out to them directly a few weeks ago asking to add some peer-reviewed journals to their database. They responded and the answer was, we are currently working on new ways to improve our journal database and while we are developing new functions we won't be adding new journals to the database.
Please, add the ITU Journal: ICT Discoveries * Website: https://www.itu.int/en/journal/Pages/default.aspx * ISSN: 2616-8375 * Publisher: International Telecommunication Union (ITU)
I am afraid that colleagues will keep adding suggestions to this list - ignoring the (many) answers which have already told them that this is a mere waste of time.
Instead of waiting for a Godot who will never come to fulfill requests I suggest a simple work-around: - leave the field for journal-title blank (and add all other necessary information); - enter the journal title (+ volume number, etc.) directly after the title of your article in the title field. Not ideal - but it works and will provide your readers with all necessary bibliographical information.
That's a very good question: How to add a journal? Probably many researchers and scientists who publish their articles published in various journals ask themselves this question, because the database of journals entered into the Research Gate portal does not include all scientific journals in which researchers and scientists publish their articles, etc., I am also interested in obtaining answer to this particularly important question.
