Usually hexane or acetone is used for solvent fractionation. Is that oil allowed for food product development? How fractionated oils are being justified to use for food?
Dear Mansura Mokbul , yes, oils extracted or fractioned with (allowed) organic solvents are possible for food product development. The use of solvents is justified either because oil extraction by mechanical means from some raw materials is difficult or just to facilitate the separation of the oil fraction from the bagasse or pulp. Of course, after fractionation, levels of any solvent in oil must be reduced under the allowed limits accepted by each country or region.
