For the hydrogenation of polymer (aromatic ring), silica (SBA-15) based catalyst and water as solvent used.

The particle size of the polymer is around 8 micron and the catalyst pore size is around 5-6 nm, the metal nano-particles are settled into the pore of the support. In this study, observed 100% selectivity with complete conversion of the aromatic ring to the cyclohexane ring in presence of H2.

Q. How, the hydrogenation of the polymer takes place? Although the size of the catalyst and reactant polymer has a big difference, what is the mechanism that occurred here?

Thank you very much for your valuable time and kind suggestions, in advance.

Sincerely,
