Adequate and effective social infrastructure is very much necessary for the economic growth of the country.According to Sullivan:
“Social infrastructure refers to those factors which render the human resources of a nation suitable for productive work.”
A developing country is drastically different in terms of how its labour laws are regulated, how its citizens are educated, and how their health is handled. What are the unique ways to create and develop,and sustain social infrastructure in a country (particularly developing).
Sanjeev - Social infrastructure is defined as the construction and maintenance of facilities that support social services.
For a developing country, there is need to built social infrastructure which include healthcare (hospitals), education (schools and universities), public facilities (community housing and prisons) and transportation (railways and roads).
Social infrastructure plays an important role in developing strong and inclusive communities. There is need to integrate marginalized communities like low castes, classes, tribes, poor and neglected into the mainstream society. Poverty alleviation programs, rural and urban development programs must be given top priority in developing social infrastructure of a developing nation.
The governmental task must be free of ties with economic enterprises, precisely to be able to focus the social. The temptation of the state to provide goods or services is great, but at that moment it ceases to act with the maximum efficiency, and will have difficulties to put the social tasks in the first place.
today even the so-called developed countries have challenges to keep social infrastructure at levels they had been. Many social security measures are funded through those in the work-force. High unemployment, demographic changes mean challenges for such systems. In developing countries resource challenges are often also the reasons why systems are not as good as they could and should be. However I think that reasonable primary health systems, reasonable pensions schemes, occupational health and safety laws, etc are an important need also in developing countries. In most cases such programs are financed through employer and employees; for poorest people it is the responsibility of the state to provide subsidies, e.g. free health systems at a reasonable good quality.
How can that be done considering that unemployment is usually very high in developing counties and taxation is usually weak?
