Dear all,
In social sciences, it is often recommended to determine the required sample size through an a priori power analysis. This analysis requires providing, among other factors, an expected effect size, which is typically derived from studies similar to our own. However, this index is not always reported. In such cases, according to Perugini et al. (2018), it is possible to use a sensitivity power analysis to determine the minimum effect size that can be reliably detected, calculated using the available sample size for the study.
The problem I’m facing is as follows: do I need to conduct a sensitivity power analysis before each statistical analysis? If not, and assuming that three distinct analyses must be conducted, from which analysis should I determine the appropriate effect size for my study?
Thank you for considering my request.
Best,
Kévin
