I need to send yeast cells from my lab near Vancouver, Canada to Nara, Japan. I wonder how I should ship them. They would likely be in transit for about a week. This question has two parts.
1) what sort of culture medium should I use?
2) do they need to be sent in a special insulative container to maintain a particular temperature, humidity level or other culture condition?
It is a strain of s. cerevisiae commonly used for brewing beer.

As grow media for S. cerevisiae
You can use YPD media.
Formulation per One Liter:
10 g Yeast extract
20 g Bacto peptone
20 g Dextrose (glucose)
Agar or without.
If long transportation you can create glycerol stock.
I think the best would be a slope with YPDA medium and you secure it in a Styrofoam box. It would insulate the culture and the slope culture has generally a higher longevity (if kept in the right position).
